claws and teeth...

we like to play with prada... like sticking her in the laundry basket... you can see her trying to gnaw her way out... you can also see her sharp claws hanging out...

mild day...

nothing much to report, other than i woke to the sounds of kolohe barfing up his breakfast... i think he has a stuck hairball... his barfing noises were that of when he barfs up hairballs... and i guess because he just ate, food came out instead...

just to be on the safe side, i went out to get him some laxatone... to help get rid of the hairball...

prada has a new sleeping spot... in the garage on top of some rubbermaid containers... i don't even know how she gets up there...

where's kolohe now?

as of late, kolohe likes to hide... probably wants to get away from prada... but even when he is in the sanctuary of our room, sometimes he likes to hide...

one day i came into the room and he was no where to be found... and i knew that i had left him in the room... i searched and searched and then i found him...

he was sleeping inside the laundry basket full of clean clothes that was sitting on the bed... i thought it was cute and didn't care that he was putting his hair all over clean laundry...

sometimes i wonder possesses him to choose his hiding spots... and i also wonder how he can fit his fat butt into some of his hiding spots...

my public announcement regarding flea control...

come springtime and the warmer weather, also comes the fleas... when we first got prada, we never fully got rid of the fleas she came with... then we had a heat wave and now there has been an explosion of fleas on both cats...

i used 1800petmeds to order them some advantage... and applied it to them... hopefully soon the fleas will be under control and there will be no more scratching, miserable kitties, and fleas in my bed...

kolohe is of course good about whatever we do to him, so the application of flea medicine was not a problem for him... when we did prada, one little drop of the flea meds and she whigged out... you would've thought we dropped acid on her... after chasing her, catching her, wrapping her up in a blanket, we finished putting the dose on her.... god she's such a brat...

moving on, i wanted to let those out there know to only use flea products that are sold through your veterinarians... over the counter stuff such as biospot, zodiacspot, and hartz can be hazardous to your pets...

we had a lady come in one time with a stray cat that she found who started having seizures... we examined the cat, ran blood tests, and were a little baffled to why the cat was having these seizures... later we found out that she had put flea medication on the cat... a very generic brand that she had bought from the store... the chemicals in the flea medication were toxic to the cat... we felt bad for not only the cat, but for the lady who thought she was being a good samaritan by taking in this cat and trying to care for him... we treated him (which was somewhat costly) and he turned out ok... and fortunately the lady who took him in still wanted him and paid for our services without any complaints...

brands that i trust and recommend is frontline and advantage... these brands of flea meds can be bought over the counter and online without a prescription...

eight below...

was watching this movie on tv today just because it was on... it's about a guy and his dog sled team... a big storm was coming in and he was unable to bring the dogs... fortunately the dogs broke free from their chains and were on their own for about three months until the guy was able to make it back out there to them...

it made me think about how hard it is to just leave an animal... and then i felt guilty for the animals that i have left... i had a kitty named isaac whom i had left in virginia because i was moving back to california... my ex at the time was supposed to take him to the local animal shelter (or i told him to) and all he did was ditch him outside with a pile of cat food... you can imagine how mad and guilty i felt...

then i had another kitty named chia... i actually took her from my ex's step brother since he couldn't keep her... we had her for a while... she was ryan's first pet... then she started to poop in the corner of the living room and my mom would give me hell for it... it was hard to work, go to school, and take care of ryan while hearing my mom yell and scream at me... so i had my boyfriend at the time take her to the (un)humane society... i couldn't do it because i already felt so guilty... then my mom goes on a trip to hawaii, and my aunt who loves cats, chews her out about taking the cat to the pound and then my mom comes back and tries to tell me to get her back.... for crying out loud... unfortunately, the damage had been done...

maybe that's why i had to rescue all those other kitties... to compensate...

prada tidbit...

she does not like the heat... it makes her turn into more of a cranky little b---- than she already is...

the past two days all she has been doing is laying on the kitchen floor, spread eagle like a... well, just not very lady-like...

i suppose it's a good thing... however, in the mornings when it's cool, she's still her crazy self, running around like an idiot...

but go and touch her when the day is hot?  watch out!  she'll claw your arms off!

4.20.2009

been a while...

didn't realize how much time has gone by since my last post... doesn't mean that prada has been good though... or has moved to a new home... or has died... she's still around just making as much trouble as she always is...

things have been kind of busy but not really.... last week both cats got into things that they shouldn't have been in... kolohe will get an entry of his own...

anyways, last week prada ate a rather large piece of pineapple... my son came running into my room, waking me up and asked me if she was going to be poisoned... i couldn't remember, so i had to look it up on the good ol' net... citrus fruit is kind of ok.... not recommended... and can cause stomach problems....

more like diarrhea problems again... and i know it's her this time, not only through diagnosis but because the poo smells exactly like her farts... and she's been farting since she ate the pineapple... the diarrhea is still kind of going on and i'm letting it ride out.... i hope it clears up or i may have to take her to the doctor AGAIN... i wish to avoid that though.... it's traumatizing... on me...

4.08.2009

quickie...

thought i would show you what she looks like during the rare moments that she's good... when she knocks out to sleep, she really knocks out... perhaps i will try to cut her toenails with no restraint the next time she is knocked out like this...

today, the husband said that after he made his sandwich for work and stepped away for a moment, prada tried to take off with it in her mouth.... plastic wrap and all...

4.06.2009

kind of a quiet day...

nothing out of the ordinary... just the usual countertop battle with prada... and the fact that she tried to kill me when i was making my blt sandwich for lunch... usually i give her a piece of lettuce and she runs off growling... today, she smelled the lettuce when i brought it out, hissed, and attacked my legs... no lettuce for her... brat...

today i also closed the door on kolohe's tail... i felt so bad because he screamed... not a loud meow or anything, literally a scream... even though he has a crooked tail, it's still long... and he walks so slow... i thought he was all the way out of the door... whoops... he forgave me though after i fed him...

i will leave you with a picture i took a while back... i was walking past the bathroom one day and saw kolohe's butt hanging out of the shower curtain... not sure if he was trying to hide or thought he was invisible... i got a kick out of it....

4.03.2009

whoops... guess that wasn't a good idea...

before i go onto the bad idea, let me tell you about what prada did today... first of all, her nails grow back very quick... she had done this a couple of times before and i'm thinking, geezus, can i not keep windows open either?

she likes to scale the window screens... and she just doesn't climb up them... she climbs up the screen and all around... she almost resembles spiderman... now, i can't have this because i'm fearful of her nails ripping the screens.... oh why does she have to stick her toenails into everything?!?

so, i took a leisurely trip to petco just to browse... they had some items on clearance and i found a couple of good deals... another feather toy for a dollar since the cats love it so much... and i got a little treat toy for prada... it's kind of like those toys for dogs where you put treats in them and they try to get it out... an item to keep them busy...

come home, put a treat in and give it to prada... she was mad because she couldn't get at the treat... we laughed... she was growly... she's always like that with treats... took her about ten to fifteen minutes trying to get the treat out... probably wouldn't have taken that long if she wasn't growling half the time...

but now, i think i had her regress about food... my husband was working in the garage and i guess she wanted food so bad, she went over and bit him on the hand... when it finally was dinner time for her, he reached for her food and she was swatting at him and going crazy... there wasn't even food in her bowl yet... then i went to check on her and she was growling... protecting her food... and she hasn't done that for a while...

so whoops.... and stupid treat toy for kitties... then again, prada isn't a normal cat...

oral fixations...

we think prada grew up with dogs before becoming an orphan... or maybe she was just reincarnated as one...

she likes to chew on whatever she can find... she likes to bite, including our fingers, hands, feet, toes, whatever she can get her needle sharp teeth on... she used to go behind the entertainment center and bite the cords... we had to block it up with pieces of cardboard and dvds...

she loves to also chew on paper and shred it...

so i wake up one morning and walk out to the kitchen to this:

and my carpet there... usually it sits in front of the garage door... but as she flies through the kitchen at top speed, she tends to drag it with her... and yes, i do have one of those rubber mats underneath it to keep it in place... obviously it's not prada proof...
